About Us

Thibadeau Company, est. in 1949, is a family operated real estate development, sales and property management company.

THIBADEAU CO INC. HISTORY

Brothers, Bill and John Thibadeau, started their careers as insurance salesmen, eventually transitioning into the real estate brokerage business to represent builders in new home sales in the post war building boom.

In 1949, Thibadeau Co. began as a partnership of four Dekalb County men who incorporated as Thibadeau Shaw and Brannen. Together this group began developing land into new home subdivisions and handling the sales of the new homes.

Over the years Thibadeau Co. has been a local industry leader in land sales, land development, selling new and resale homes and small office development. The people at Thibadeau have made major contributions to the development of the Dekalb Board of Realtors and the Metro Listing Service. A basic Thibadeau philosophy is that an improvement to the community or industry, is an improvement to the company.

OUR TEAM

HEAD BROKER & CEO

LEONARD THIBADEAU is a fourth generation Dekalb County native, who is dedicated to his family, community and profession.

After graduating from Centre College with a BA in Psychology, Leonard worked for his brother’s construction company for several years, which helped deepen his knowledge of quality home building before he joined the real estate business.

Leonard became a REALTOR® in Dekalb County and the Metro Atlanta area in 1975 and an associate Broker since 1978. In 1987, he took over the position of the Designated Head Broker at Thibadeau Company Inc from his father Bill.

He has been a member of the DeKalb, Georgia, and National Associations of REALTORS® for almost 50 years. He has previously served as the President, Treasurer, and chair of the Technology Task Force for the Dekalb Board of REALTORS and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020. He also previously served on the Board of Directors of Dekalb and the Georgia Association of Realtors, as well as a board member for the Dekalb Medical Foundation.

For City of Decatur, he participated in many city meetings, advocating for smart development, traffic calming features and good design qualities on local developments. He served on the Public Finance Authority, was the chair for the Waste Management Advisory Board (implementing the “Pay as you Throw” system) and was a member of the In-fill Housing Task Force. Leonard has been an advocate in many local meetings for smart development, traffic calming features, and good design. Leonard loves to walk in the neighborhood, local parks and downtown Decatur, work on his community garden, attend City of Decatur events, visit with his family and many dog-grandchildren and visit Lake Lanier, Crystal River, and Cumberland Island most often in his free time.

GENERAL MANAGER

ALEX THIBADEAU is a fifth generation Dekalb County native, who was born and raised in downtown Decatur.

At Thibadeau Company, she manages the operations and development of our commercial properties and works as a team with Leonard in all areas of the real estate buying/selling/leasing processes. She brings energy, excitement and lots of technical and operational skills to the company, which pairs nicely with Leonard’s 40+ years of experience navigating the real estate landscape.

Before joining Thibadeau Company, Alex served in the roles of Grants/Contract Manager, Executive Assistant, and Marketing and Development Coordinator for 8 years at non-profit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her roles at Movement Strategy Center, Urban Tilth, and MSH Properties gave her a diverse set of skills in small business management and development. She carries these skills, as well as a strong passion for social justice, equity and sustainability to all of her work at Thibadeau Company.

Growing up in Decatur, Alex enjoyed the walkable community of neighbors and friends, attending the City Schools, doing a myriad of sports (swimming, softball, lacrosse), band, girl scouts, choir at St. Luke’s Episcopal, and visiting Lake Lanier, Cumberland Island and Crystal River for family vacations. Lifeguarding at Venetian Pools and swim team coaching at Lake Claire Pool were her first jobs. After High School, she obtained her bachelors degree in English (writing track) with minors in Environmental Studies and Photography from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. In her free time now, she can be found most often walking at local parks, enjoying the farmer’s markets, attending dance and music events, biking, roller skating, doing yoga and volunteering with different social justice advocacy groups.

SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER

CAROL CALHOUN has been an integral member of the company for 40+ years. She handles office and tenant management, bookkeeping and a myriad of key administrative responsibilities. She has been the dog-loving, eclair-making backbone of Thib Co, keeping the ship sailing smoothly for longer than any of us can remember. In her free time, you can find Carol making a delicious recipe, visiting her family in Elijay, and walking in Stone Mountain with her many furry friends.
